Movies
So I ended up goin to Mom & Pop's place tonight to watch a movie. We didn't, however, watch the last Netflix movie we've been waiting to watch so she could mail it back. I'm sure we'll get it watched eventually.
Mel Brooks
No, tonight, Pop was finally in the mood to watch Robin Hood, Men in Tights again. He'd wanted to see it months ago, and I happened to have it on VHS. But by the time I brought it over, he was out of the mood... so it sat in their living room until tonight. I don't think I could honestly say that I've ever NOT been in the mood for Mel Brooks. I mean, not all of his stuff is great... some of it misses the mark. But when he's on, he's hilarious. Right at the top of the list is Men in Tights... then Young Frankenstein, and Blazing Saddles. And, really, the only reason Men inTights wins out is purely because of Blinkin... he cracks me up just about every time he opens his mouth.
In fact, the first and only snowman I ever built when I got to Misery was named in honor of the li'l blind dood. Primariliy cuz the snowman was severely lumpy, and immediately reminded us of Blinkin dressed as a woman and being admonished to "fix yer bewbs... you look like a bleedin Picasso!". *grin*
Amway, we actually finished the movie by 8, but Mom opted against starting the other one, cuz we plan to start out of here by 7 in the mornin to catch opening ceremonies at the Ren Fair tomorrow, and she didn't want to stay up too late. I never get to sleep anytime before 11:00, so it didn't matter one way or another to me. Figured I could just as well come home and blog a li'l.
The Wanderer
Just a few more miscellaneous items, though, before I sign off... like the Wanderer deciding to cut her adventure short, and leaving Florida to head straight back through to Colorado this weekend. I'd have liked to have seen her again on her way through, but I'm just glad she's out of Hurricane Central right now. Though, I still have plenty of friends along the East coast who are still experiencing hastle from the first three windy mayhems and battening down the hatches for Jeanne.
Friends and Money
My last issue for the day will take more time to explain in full at a later date, but in short synopsis: I got a letter in the mail today from the lawyer of another friend of mine (my oldest friend, actually... we were best friends in elementary school) with a Reaffirmation Agreement. She's had a lot of medical problems and, subsequently, financial problems as well. I've lent her and her husband a small chunk of money over the last several years in an effort to help, but they've unfortunately only become more and more mired in debt.
They finally filed for Bankruptcy this year. I'd pretty much written the debt off for the sake of our friendship... I mean, it was money I could spare at the time, and it's certainly not money I am in dire need of now. But equally for the sake of our friendship, and for her dignity and pride, she didn't want to welch on her debt to me. Which I totally understand, and am not about to argue with. I'm somewhat surprised, though, cuz I thought the process would take longer. But here I am with the Agreement that I need to sign and send back to Utah by October 1. Part of the process was figuring up their income, who they still owe to, and how much they can afford to pay. So it looks like I'll be gettin an extra $30 a month for the next... oh, about a hundred years or so... lol
Woo-hoo! Just when I was lookin for some extra money for all my trips this comin year. Think it'll cover my airfare?
We're Back! And Happy. Mostly...
