Frances
So it seems Hurricane Frances finally came ashore. Well, her western end. She's moving slowly, so her eastern end will catch up in about 12 or 14 hours, according to the news. I think she's downgraded a point or two, but she's still gonna dump a LOT of rain. You know, the type that sweeps SUV's down the road a few miles. And a lotta peeps are outta power again. *sigh*
*Still keepin my fingers crossed.*
Terrorism
Equally (if not more) disturbing is the news outta Russia the past few weeks. First a couple of suicide bombers down two airliners on the 24th... another one blows herself up outside a train station killing even more peeps this past Tuesday... and then the coup de gras: The siege of a friggin school starting Wednesday through to Friday... with a botched rescue attempt and over 350 casualties, most of them children. How wrong is that? I mean, downed airliners and suicide bombers seem to be regular fare anymore around the world. But a school? *shakin head*
I know terrorists have been doing their thing for decades, but they certainly seem to be takin center stage these last several years. Perhaps we're simply more aware of them since 9/11. Which I imagine was their whole intent... and that their "success" that horrid day has encouraged them to make more and more bold statements. Whatever reason, the "War on Terror" doesn't seem incredibly encouraging these days. It certainly is a humongous undertaking... all one can do is hope it eventually succeeds.
One of these decades.
