Let me Sleep!
So my final morning of freedom has been less than optimal. I'm not entirely sure why, but my li'l ass woke up just before 5 am this mornin. So there I lay tryin to get back to sleep... but, of course, there was no foolin Ms. Perky Ears. Today she employed the "streeeeetch from the top of the cat tree and noisily play with the keychains" tactic.
Keychains
So lemme explain the keychains. I have a rather extensive collection, and have chosen to display them in two long continuous chains that drape from several hooks along two walls of my room at the ceiling line. The cat tree is stationed in the corner of the room... so when the notion strikes her, she can stretch up the wall from it's top segment to reach the keychains. She usually isn't interested in them at all... except when she's in the mood to be noisy. Which is when I'm trying to sleep. *rolling eyes*
Okay... so my Yahoo Messenger is on right now, and Mom gets to work at 7:30. She just popped in, and her first line is asking: "Where are you?" *snicker*
I should have told her: "Right here!"
Lazy Day
Amway, my long weekend has not yet ended cuz I'd arranged to take an extra day off back when I thought I'd be driving to Ohio. Then, after I nixed those plans, I decided to still keep my vacation day. And I'm glad of it... though, it'll just be that much harder to go back to work tomorrow. Of course, I'll only have 3 days until NEXT weekend! *grin*
But no worries about that today. I've got a somewhat eventful day planned. I completed my essential errands on Sunday, but today it's all fun runs. Including the Barnes & Noble at the mall (for me, the only true purpose of the mall) to cash in my 100-Days-Without-Injury Prize Gift Certificate from work. Of course, 100-Days-Without-Injury is really no large feat for clerical personnel, but Project, Design, and Construction Services Departments logically have safety issues. And as part of the department, we paperpushers share in the celebrations. And gift certificates.
Pres in Town
I'll need to get out early, though, considering the President (yes, of the United States) is gonna be in town this afternoon, and traffic will be horrendous. I'm sure his visit would be all kinds of exciting... if I even remotely liked the man. Or his policies. He should receive a fairly warm welcome, here, though. Outside of the big cities (St. Louis and Kansas City) and this relatively diverse college town, Misery is a pretty solidly conservative state. Which just about drives me buggy. Mostly during election years (read: right now). It can be somewhat frustrating when hardly anything or anybody I vote for actually wins.
Culture Clash
That and hunting. It's not just a way of life around here... it's a passion. I fully understand the necessity for thinning overpopulated herds that PEOPLE perpetuated by settling the area and eliminating their natural predators. It's the whole "hunting as sport" thing that I really haven't gotten used to. I REALLY try not to judge a way of life for basically good peeps... so I simply look at them as hired mercenaries retained to perform a necessary service, rather than killing for the sport of it.
But enough bitching about that. I believe I've already mentioned I don't plan to live here forever.
Beloved Spoon
So, I think I'll wrap this up and get ready to head out. Oh, and I need to call my Apartment Manager and ask her if the heating element in my dishwasher can be replaced... after I brilliantly melted one of my nylon/plastic stirring spoons on it. *sigh* I've scraped off as much of the burnt mess as I could, but the whole dishwasher still reeks when it's used and the element heats up, and similarly smells up any dishes that have the misfortune of being in it.
*sniff*... I miss that spoon.
We're Back! And Happy. Mostly...
