Work
So it was a rather somber day at work today. Not any particular reason... everybody had their own thing goin on. Mom and I are still tired from our busy weekend. That bone-weary kinda tired where even your digestive system doesn't seem to have much umph and you have no appetite. I still don't, in fact. I grabbed a Slimfast when I got home, until I can figure out what sounds even remotely appealing for dinner.
The Retiree
The Retiree wasn't feeling well and was kinda down. Now, you have to understand this woman to understand just how sick she must have been to be any kinda down at all. Her "normal" is several kicks up from everybody else's "normal". She's usually a bundle of happy energy... a biker granny.... literally. Her favorite photo proudly displayed on her desk is of her young 2-year old grandson decked out in miniature full biker attire and sitting astride a Harley. Ask her at any given time how she's doin, and she'll announce "I'm great!" So, when I got an "I'm okay" from her this mornin, I knew she was in bad shape.
The Office Manager (and the Battleax)
The Office Manager was just in a foul mood in general. The Boss has been drivin her all kinds of crazy lately. And I can totally sympathize with her. Sometimes his attitutes remind me of MY last boss... and THAT woman was enough to give anybody ulcers. Mom saw her being interviewed on TV once, and I asked her opinion. The verdict: "Yup, she's a Battleax." *snicker* However, the difference between THIS Boss, and THAT Boss is that I hardly have any interaction with this one at all. In my last department, I was all the staff there was... so I was the only one in line to deal with The Battleax. Though, she was equally disliked by anybody who had to deal with her, so I knew it wasn't just me.
Amway, the Office Manager at this department is in a somewhat similar position in that she works very closely with The Boss. She's the first in line to deal with him, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she finally got fed up and simply left. She's definately not the type to take that kind of crap quietly or gracefully... nor to hide her displeasure from it's object. I definately never want to be on her bad side. Fortunately, we get along great... we're roughly around the same age, and have become somewhat of confidantes. I'd be sad to see her go... but I also wouldn't want her to be unhappy. Her work is not her life, and she knows where her priorities lie. I know I certainly could NOT do her job.
The Receptionist
The Receptionist wasn't even around... she was absent again for the third work day in a row. It actually happens quite a lot. Now, whereas this fact doesn't really bother me anymore (the poor woman has more medical problems than most anybody I know) it sometimes doesn't help the office atmosphere, considering The Boss can get rather snippish when the place is not at full capacity.
The Boss
I feel I should clarify that The Boss is not an altogether bad guy. He was Senior Project Manager for a long time before the position of Director opened up and he stepped up to fill in as Interim and test the waters a bit. I think he's still gettin used to bein a Boss. He LOVES being a PM, but he's had to cut down quite a bit on his projects what with the plethora of other duties that accompanied his new position. We weren't sure if he was gonna decide to stick with it, but I guess as of last week, his title officially became "Director" rather than "Interim Director". So I guess he made his decision. I've been told by many who knew him before Director-hood, that he was always a great guy to be around, very upbeat and friendly. I imagine the stresses of being in charge can wear anybody down. He only starts gettin nasty when he's really stressed... which, unfortunately, can happen a lot in that job. But I think he's still growing into the position, and learning how to effectively lead a department without driving everybody (or at least his Office Manager) crazy.
Mom in Class
So all in all, not quite a chipper day at the office. I stayed pretty busy, though. Mom started a new 6-week Interior Decorating class today, which took her from the office for a few hours in the afternoon, so I filled in for her. It wasn't an overflowingly busy day, though, so it was all perfectly manageable for this pupped poopy.
And Other Stuff
Plus, I received a pleasant surprise in my mail when I got home... yup: Drugs!! Woo-hoo! Not that I need them at the moment, fortunately. However, it's always peace of mind knowing they're on hand when needed.
Welp, that's about all I've got for today. I have a friend in Georgia who's currently getting poured on by Jeanne, so I'm keepin my fingers crossed she doesn't float away. I also have a few friends still in Florida that I haven't talked to for a while... I really need to get in touch with them to see how they're doin.
I haven't decided yet what to eat. But I still have pics to process, so mebbe I'll figure out something by time I'm done with that. Otherwise, it's a quiet night for me.
G'night!
We're Back! And Happy. Mostly...
