Must-See-TV

So a couple of new shows premiered on NBC's big Must-See-TV tonight: "Joey" and "Medical Investigation". I rather liked both.

Joey & Friends

Joey, of course, is a spin-off from Friends, which went off the air last year. I always liked him, though, and he's true to form in his new show. Combined with new characters that have potential, it's promising to be just as fun to watch.

Medical Investigation

Now, I've always liked detective shows and movies and such, where you're trying to figure out the mystery or the crime or, in the case of Medical Investigation, the disease. So this new show's already a plus based on it's premise alone. But it also has some strong characters, and a pretty interesting process of figuring out the problem... prominently featuring science, in addition to the usual deductive reasoning, etc. Oh, and our mystery solving team is swept off in an impressive looking helo every time an emergency situation comes up anywhere in the country. Nice touch. I would never have thought that the NIH would prove to be interesting. But hey... that's what the magic of television is all about. I've never gotten around to watching Crime Scene Investigation, but I imagine it's somewhat the same. I gotta figure out what channel that show's on.

Conflicting Shows

The only problem with Medical Investigation is that it's regular night is gonna be Fridays at 9:00. Which, of course, conflicts with Sci-Fi night. Just about the only shows Sci-Fi Channel produces that are any good are on Friday nights. For the time being, at least. Lately, they've started throwin out mini-series teasers that are hinted to be turned into regular series eventually. But for now, it's a solid 2-hour Friday night block of Mom and I calling each other up every commercial and yappin about Stargate SG-1 and the new Stargate Atlantis. Okay, yeah, we're both hopeless Sci-Fi nuts. :)

So I guess my VCR will get some work until the Sci-Fi season is over. They do things weird... their seasons are broken up differently than the major networks.

Reality Shows

But amway, NBC's new season looks fairly decent. Aside from the reality shows. I know a lotta peeps love that stuff, but I honestly have not seen one I've even remotely liked. I dunno... the drama of watching a new person defeated each week, or a buncha peeps doing thoroughly disgusting and/or terrifying things does absolutely nothing for me. Oh well. That's what 70 other cable channels are for. *grin*

Okee, well, I just wanted to make note of the new shows I liked tonight. I'm already figuring out my evening schedule this season.

I take my tv-watching seriously, you know.
