On Butterflies and Hurricanes

Fashion... or Lack Thereof

So I'm decked out in butterflies today. Yeah, I've gotten kinda girly in my old age. Though, I still could hardly be described as a slave to fashion... Gimme jeans and a t-shirt, and I'm good. Of course, at work, I can't quite pull that off, but my attire is still pretty simple. I have a few fun tops, but I mostly go for solid colored blouses... and almost always black slacks.

Of course, a solid blouse almost screams for something to break it up... so I have a variety of necklaces and pendants. And sometimes throw in some simple earings... but that's about as fancy as I get. And always silver. I'm not sure when I started preferring silver over gold, but I hardly ever wear the yellow stuff anymore. The best I've ever been able to explain is that silver just seems more... earthy. Or some such chit. Besides, it looks better with the cooler colors I prefer: blues, purples and greens.

Chronically Late

But amway, work today has slowed a li'l early. I still have about 1 1/2 hours left before quittin time. Nothin much exciting goin on. I took a short lunch cuz I got to work almost a half hour late this mornin. Doh! I mean, getting anywhere late is pretty much par for the course for me... but not usually THAT late. I'm one of those frustrating peeps that can never get myself together in time for ANYTHING. You know... the kind you tell to be someplace an hour before they really need to be there in hopes they actually get there on time? Thank goodness I don't really primp much in the mornings.... and that I don't have to be at work until 8:30. I just can't wake up and get my brain in gear. Sometimes I find myself just wandering the apartment trying to remember what I was supposed to do next. I don't have to worry about getting old... my memory's already WAY ahead of me. *sigh*

New Faces

On a brighter note, it DOES look like we might have some cute new jailbait filling our vacant student worker position. He came in to interview this mornin, and the Office Manager took him around to introduce to peeps. He seems to have the right kind of "get-in-there-and-take-care-of-whatever-needs-to-be-done" attitude that was sorely lacking from his predecessor. Here's hoping. It should prove interesting havin another cutie in the department. Workin for the University, I'm surrounded by cute jailbait. Well... they're not TECHNICALLY jailbait, but still entirely too young for me to do anything but appreciate their aesthetics. *grin*

Hurricane News

As usual, I've kept my eye on the news... and hurricanes. I have many friends who have been feeling the effects (mostly in the form of lots and lots of rain and flooding) of both Charley and Frances... from Georgia to North Carolina to DC to Ohio. In addition to The Wanderer and a few others I know in Florida. One of them told me today to keep an eye on Ivan. He's puffed his chest out to a full Category 5 hurricane, and depending on where he decides to come ashore, Misery could potentially feel the edges of his wrath, too. He'd have to come in through the Gulf, though, and most forecasts are seeing him turning into Florida. Again. *sigh* He's already devastated Grenada and is currently headin towards Cuba and Jamaica. Forecasts put him in Florida around Monday or Tuesday.

More Weather Blues

Elsewhere in the world, Mother Nature is also being pissy in China. Evidently, seasonal rains screw with much of the country every summer... but the increase in rainfall each year has made the phenomenon more and more dangerous. In the past week, torrential rains and resulting floods have killed over 160 people in southwestern China. Thousands have been injured or sick, and even more are trapped by surrounding floodwater and cut off from essential supplies and food. So far, $4.82 million in relief funds have been dedicated to the area. After five friggin days. *shakin head*

Ya know, ya gotta wonder... with the severity of the natural disasters around the world seeming to increase every year, mebbe the Earth really is undergoing some sort of parasite-purging process to regain her equilibrium. There's been plenty of speculation as to how many times it's been done before. And honestly... can't say's I entirely blame her.

Welp, that's about all I have for today. A pretty quiet day, all in all. The other of my coworkers (The Retiree) who usually stays til 5:30 with me, left early so it's up to me to print up tomorrow's schedules before I head out. Ooh! And I think NBC's new fall season starts tonight!

Must-See-TV, here I come! :)
