So Day 3 of my long weekend has so far been satisfyingly lazy. Though my body doesn't really comprehend the concept of sleeping in much past 8 or 9, it's still FAR better than 6 or 7. :) Of course, it would help if I'd remembered to turn off my weekday alarm settings... but it's all good.
Speaking of which... *off to adjust those settings for tomorrow morning*
Sleeping In
Okee. So yeah... Ms. Pukesalot shares my body's disdain for sleeping in, as well. Well, lemme clarify: SHE can sleep anytime she pleases... it's MY sleeping habits that require monitoring. She's used to me being up at a given time to give her lots and lots of attention after having the temerity to be asleep and ignore her all night. In the past, if I even twitch in a fashion that suggests I MIGHT be waking up, she's Johnny-on-the-spot... staring at me intently about 3 inches from my face, stomping all over me, turning on my bedside touch-on-lamp with her nose, and/or brushing MY nose with an outstretched paw... all in a determined effort to finish the process.
Of course, some mornings I'm simply not awake enough to tolerate such activities very well, and she promptly finds herself locked out of my room. Now, she's NOT a stupid cat. So now she frequently leaves me in peace... just so long as I don't push it and try to sleep TOO long. As with any lasting relationship, ours is one of many, many understandings and compromises.
Unacceptible
Say, for example, several weeks ago, we had a heart-to-heart discussion one morning. I explained to her that puking on my bed is never a good thing... and that puking on my bed while I'M IN IT, at 2 am, right next to my pillow, is entirely unacceptable. And she explained to me (yes, she's quite vocal... rather eloquent, actually) that locking her out of my room from 2 am to normal wake-up time, is equally unacceptable. I sincerely believe that an agreement was reached that morning for potential future situations.
Actually, I was somewhat surprised I was asleep at my post for that one. My ears have become finally tuned for that pleasant heaving sound, and they can usually wake me out of a dead sleep. That I missed it inches from my face must have been a sign that I was well and truly tired. Which most probably contributed to my extremely foul mood over the whole incident.
Learning from Mistakes
But no harm was done... after previous incidents of gifts left on my bed (not at night) and the wonderful accompanying aroma soaked down to the mattress pad, requiring me to take the whole kit and kaboodle to the laundromat for a thorough cleaning... I brilliantly came up with the idea of covering the comforter with a vinyl tablecloth. The only thing that lies on top of it is a blue dragon spread, which is easy enough to gather up and throw in my own washing machine. No trips to the laundromat cussing and snorting and grumbling at 8 pm after a long day at work, spending 1 1/2 hours carrying on polite conversation with the slightly creepy laundromat attendant who is the only other individual in residence.
Of course, sleepin on the vinyl tablecloth is somewhat noisy... but it's something I've become accustomed to, and it's already justified it's existence more than once. I mean, any given situation must be balanced against my laziness quotient... the solution that involves the least amount of work and/or effort will usually win out every time. One thing I'll say for my li'l darling... she certainly keeps my brain hoppin (attempting to) keep one step ahead of her.
Sweetness & Smarts
But her intelligence serves me in many ways other than keepin my brain in working order. And she really is such a li'l sweety. She's very gentle and genuinely does not want to hurt people... so if we're playing, or she accidently digs a little too deep while putsy-putsying, all I have to say is "ouch" or "gentle" and she immediately lets off. When she curls up on the pillow next to mine at bedtime, sometimes I just reach over and lightly brush a soft li'l ear... and she won't move a muscle, but the purr just turns right on. :)
She's a li'l pain in the ass... but one can never doubt that she's MY pain in the ass.
Welp, I'm not sure what all's on the itinerary for today. Mom suggested yesterday she may want to do something together for Labor Day, so I guess I'll see how it goes. But for now, I need to go start on my bi-monthly laundry. Having only one person to wash clothes for has many advantages. :)
Happy Labor Day!
