So I WAS gonna be driving to Ohio this weekend. In fact, I'd be on the road at this exact moment. For a friend's Labor Day Party. And yup... that would be yet another internet friend met through my message board.
Internet Friends
One would think having so many friends I rarely, if ever, see in person would be rather strange. However... in this day and age, I'm thinkin: Not so strange. Especially considering most of the friends I first made in real life are equally spread to the four winds... passed by in my numerous travels and relocations... and my communication with them pretty much consists of IM and e-mail, as well. Thank goodness for the internet. I'm entirely too lazy (not to mention impatient and/or short attention span) for letter-writing. Am I a symbol for my age or what?
No Trip This Year
But back to this party. I'd actually already decided to decline the invitation several weeks ago. For many reasons... not the least of which is that the drive is a good 8 hours, and experience dictates that anything over 3 hours is gauranteed to give me a migraine. Plus the fact that most of the folks (at least the ones I know) who will be in attendance are HUGE partiers... which is all fine and dandy and I'm sure all kinds of fun. Only I'm not really a partier... don't even drink much. Not for any puritanical reasons or concern for my liver... just can't stand the taste of alcohol. It is the goal of many a friend of mine to load me up with enough alcohol (that I can't taste) to get me drunk. Hasn't happened yet, but it's always good to have goals.
Last Year's Party
Amway, I DID meet this particular batch of folks, plus more, LAST year (including Just Another Girl... who commented on my "Frailty of the Body Cont." post). At a good-bye party in Ohio thrown for one of the crew... which, turned out she never went anywhere, but the shindig was hardly a waste. About ten of us from the message board got to meet up (for the first time, for most), and we had a lotta fun. Again, a lotta partying, but I still enjoyed myself. I don't think I'd laughed that much or that hard in a long time. It was an awesome experience... and one I wouldn't overly mind repeating if my head wasn't such a killjoy. I keep trying to convince somebody to drop through and share the drive with me. Ah well... mebbe one of these years. *sigh*
(And yes, I've thought about flying, but that's just more hastle than I'm up to for a friggin party. Plus, considering I'm usually the Designated Driver, it helps to have my own wheels.)
Still Feelin Puny
'Sokay... it's just as well I bailed on the party when I did. It would be MUCH worse to bail at this late date. Though my prognosis has significantly improved (I just slept through another night... albeit in the recliner, again, so I could sleep propped up) I'm still not feelin 100%. Plus, I'm sure the party-goers will appreciate my not spreading the joy of my germs.
I plan to spend this long weekend doin squat... nada... zippo. Mebbe curl up with a book... watch a lotta tv... play a game. Oh, the possibilities for lazy activities are endless. :) Though, I'm sure I'll get in here to share some more inoccuous tidbits during the course of the next four days.
We're Back! And Happy. Mostly...
