Lunchtime Quickie

So I'm gonna try for a quick lunchtime post. "Try" bein the operative word.

A Night on the Phone

Okee... I ended up missin the political debates AGAIN last night. I was set to CNN, the VP candidates had just settled down and they were about to start proceedings... and Fussbudget called. :)

Not that I minded, really. I'd been concerned about her from our IM chat earlier in the day, and had told her not to hesitate to call if she needed to talk. Which she did. And actually, I AM very glad she called.. cuz she gets a li'l self-conscious about burdening peeps, so she tends to say she's just fine when she's not. She's had her own series of battles lately... with depression, her health, her family and, most recently, her job search. We discussed all four... plus a bunch of other stuff. Fussbudget and I are Queen Ramblers.

But she didn't sound as tight at the end of the convo, as she did at the beginning, so I hope the talk did her a li'l bit of good. Sometimes we just need an outside perspective on things for them not to look so bleak. Or mebbe she just thinks I'm a rediculous optimist and is too polite to say so. *grin* Either way, it can never hurt to laugh a li'l... and my conversations rarely want for laughter. :)

IHOP Update

Then IHOP Buddy called. Just to yap some. I got an update on IHOP Hubby: he's healing VERY well... the bones in his arm are growing back together just as they're supposed to, so it looks like he won't need surgery after all. Woo-hoo! In the meantime, she's getting along with her temporary co-workers just fine. Of course, being herself, she's already organizing Happy Hours, and attempting to play matchmaker to the singles. She's been workin on me pretty much since we first met. I'm her big challenge, and she's determined to have me happily hooked to SOMEBODY... at least sometime before we're rockin in matchin chairs in a nursing home together. *grin*

People to see... The Beavs

I've also been in contact with a few more peeps I plan to see while I'm in San Diego in a few weeks. I swear, I just hope I'll have time to take a deep breath once I get there. One couple I've known since High School... they were part of my music group and have always held a special li'l place in my heart. The Hubby is a guitarist in a band, and the friendliest dood I've ever met. Always quick with his Leave-it-to-Beaver smile and crackin corny-ass jokes ALL the time. Ya can't help but smile when you're around him. (Of course, I GOTTA call him Beav.)

And Mrs. Beav is a pretty kewl chica, herself. She was probly my best friend in Synth (short for Synthesizer Ensemble, the official name of our music group/class) and is very easy-goin. She used to hostess Horror Movie Saturdays at her place, where eight of us would get together about once a month, order a bunch of pizzas, and watch a marathon of REALLY bad horror movies a-la Mystery Science Theater 3000. Of course, this was long before MST3K ever came out. Amway, she set her sights on Beav within the first year she joined the group, they had a gorgeous wedding about 6 years later (to which I was invited, of course) and now have a beautiful family with a li'l Boy Jr. and a li'l Girl Jr. Well, I haven't seen li'l Girl Jr. in person yet... she was born since the last time I was back home. But I'm looking forward to meeting her.

So I've been e-mailing back and forth with Mrs. Beav about getting together while I'm there, and she tells me that Beav's brother (or some such... he has a HUGE Hispanic family) heard about an all-class high school reunion being held the Saturday of the 30th, and would I be interested in going. I told her sure, but I honestly dunno how much umph I'm gonna have by then... lol. I guess we'll just see how it goes. Just one more possible activity in an already packed trip. :)

People to See... Boot Camp Buddy

And lastly, I'm also recently chattin with one of my Boot Camp Buddies, who's hubby is currently stationed in San Diego... though they're gettin ready to move to Arizona, I think. I honestly haven't seen her SINCE Boot, but we've kept in touch through letters, and later e-mail, throughout the years. It'll be good to see her and the family she's made in those years. Though, the available days I have open in order to do so are quickly dwindling! lol

Brother, Can You Spare a Door Prize?

Amway, I've been pretty busy at work these last few days, trying to solicit door prize donations for the Campus Facilities Wellness Fair... which will be taking place while I'm in San Diego. I don't particularly enjoy calling up businesses and asking for handouts. And I certainly didn't sign up for the job. However, I made the mistake of askin the Retiree if she needed help with anything, and suddenly had this PLEASANT task in my lap. *snort*

Ah well. The committee in charge of door prizes (I swear, there's a committee for everything) will be having a meeting on Friday to discuss progress. And, of course, I inherited attendance to that, as well. *sigh* But I'll give my report and hand it all over, cuz I won't even be around for a week and a half before the Fair.

Okay, so I went a li'l over lunchtime. Oh well. As if I thought it'd be any different. lol

Suppose I'd best get back to my solicitations. *ring ring*
