Back to Work

Work, Work, Work

So I'm back to work today. Mom took this week off, so they did without anybody in the Documents Center for a couple days, and then I played catch-up for her work as well as mine today. Fortunately, my hat's quite a bit lighter than hers today, so I stayed busy this morning, but it's evened out this afternoon.

Comparing Pain

In fact, the Office Manager just came into my office to see my new tat work, and we yapped about that for a li'l while. Interestingly enough, she equates the pain of tat work to the pain of childbirth. Of course, I've never experienced childbirth, so I couldn't compare... and I HAVE had some tatwork in some pretty painful spots. But I always thought childbirth would be worse. Of course, Mom has also said that she's had migraines worse than childbirth, too... and I definately know what THOSE feel like. I'm beginning to get the impression that perhaps childbirth ain't as bad as everybody likes to tout it.

Voting & Portents

So amway, I ended up going alone to vote yesterday evening. I called up the folks and they'd totally forgotten about going with me. They'd been out and about earlier in the day and decided to swing by and take care of it early. They DID felt bad about forgetting me. Oh well. At first, I was a li'l hurt, but then it seemed kinda like a portent of sorts. Just one more indicator in my considerations about moving.

I know I've leaned on my family a bit in the last ten years... have come to depend on them for a few things. They've been my security blanket since I left the Navy. But it was a good wake-up call to realize that I can, and possibly should, do it on my own. Do ANYTHING on my own. I hope never to lose the adult bond I've created with them, and I don't doubt we'll still see and/or otherwise contact each other regularly no matter where I am.

Needless to say, many of my observations about myself in context with the people and places back home have increasingly led me to the conclusion of moving back there. The issue in question now is how much patience I have. Hopefully I'll have the patience to put myself into a better financial picture before I decide to move.

4 More Years... Eep!

Oh, and my candidate finally conceded the presidential race today... they thought Ohio might pull him up, but they evidently crunched the numbers and decided it wouldn't. I'm NOT looking forward to another 4 years with Bush. Plus the House and Senate are still dominated by Republicans. As expected, Misery voted pretty solidly Bush, too. Yet another indicator of feeling like I'm in a place I don't belong. It usually happens most strongly in 3 different situations: election time, when I'm looking for companionship, and when I get back from visiting home. I've got 2 going against me at the moment. *sigh*

The sad thing to me is the overwhelming number of conservative states when looking at the political map. It just seems like an angry slash of red across most of the friggin country. Many believe it was social values that decided the race. The fact that this country is being run by religious (and sometimes intolerant) beliefs is downright scary. Separation of Church and State, my ass. Oh well, the outcome of this election wasn't really a surprise, anyway. I guess we'll just see how the country weathers the next 4 years.

Blah

So not much else to report today. My thoughts are still a bit disjointed. I chatted with Boot Camp Buddy briefly... she wanted to know how the rest of my trip had been after I saw her on Tuesday. And also if I'd downloaded my pics yet. She'd told her hubby about my unusual theme for pics, and wanted to show him. I told her I'd probly get to them this weekend... along with catching up on my blog. I just can't muster much organization right now. Still pretty tired.

Okay, attempting to post this one more time. Blogger's been very sluggish today, with lots of errors popping up when I try to navigate or post. Bus Snob guesses it's cuz of all the post-election buzz getting blogged about. Sounds like as good a guess as any.
