Firefigher Hat

Puttin out Fires

So Mom's hat kept me pretty busy today... put out 2 major fires, plus a buncha smaller issues that were resolved more quickly but were no less hectic. I’ll be glad when she gets back to work next week. We keep meaning to sit down and go over a LOT of things I don’t know yet about her job. Fortunately, I have no qualms with calling her if I’ve exhausted all other options of solving a problem.

It's all good, though... rather exhilarating, actually. I like problem solving and making sure that everything gets done... if in a somewhat unorthodox and perhaps circuitous fashion. *grin* It reminds me sharply of the course we took yesterday morning, discussing generational differences. It said that Gen-Xers tend to prefer being given a problem, the preferred outcome, the tools to solve the problem, and being left to their own devices to figure it out. As opposed to following tried and true methods of doing things (older generation) or requiring step-by-step instructions on how to do things (younger generation). That’s totally me.

Makin Mistakes

Of course, I’m not perfect. I inevitably make mistakes in relatively new territory… oh hell, who am I kidding? I make plenty of mistakes in territory I’m supposed to know with my eyes shut. However, I’m not really afraid to screw up. I read something recently that said perfectionists are the way we are because we’re afraid of disapproval or making mistakes. I don’t think that’s the case with myself. I just feel a need to hold myself to the highest standard of my capability. Fortunately, I’ve learned that my capability includes plenty of mistakes… but also using logic and existing knowledge to catch those mistakes, not being afraid to claim responsibility for them, and fixing them. Makes for a lot less stress, in my opinion.

TV Night!

Amway, it’s close to the end of the day, just a few little things to clean up, and then the weekend! Woo-hoo! One of the advantages of breaking up my vacations in the middle of the workweeks… I get a short week before I go, and a short week when I get back. *grin*

I spent Wednesday night catchin up on the Thursday and Friday night shows I missed while I was gone, so I was up to speed for yesterday and tonight. I have a busy weekend ahead of me… and somewhere in the mix I need to get to my folks’ place to watch some Netflix movies Mom’s been holding onto since before I left on my trip… oops. Ah well… hopefully, I’ll get some backposting accomplished, too.

Until tomorrow!
