First Full Week Back

Better Mood

So I’m in a better mood today. I think venting yesterday helped. I actually had a great night at the folks’… got my laundry done, made up the banana bread, moved some stuff downstairs for Mom, Family Sunday Dinner and Trivial Pursuit. Gram and I always partner up for the game, and we finally won for the first time against Mom & Pop. It doesn’t help that Pop’s a venerable font of historical and geographical information (not to mention Sports), while Mom’s an English and Literature major… and pretty strong on the Science to boot. *sigh* That’s okay, Gram and I know the pop culture stuff… Gram’s got the first half of the last century covered, and I’ve got the last half. *grin*

New Management

Amway, I was more in a “do something about it” frame of mind this morning rather than the “bitch about it” one that consumed me yesterday (plus they're not available on the weekends, except for emergencies), so I contacted the office manager of my apartment building this morning. As it turns, we’re evidently under new management. Or at least interim management. Which explains all the new appliances… and also why nobody’s gotten back to me regarding my dishwasher heating element. And it can even explain why the late notice on the new furnaces.

So I suppose at least most, if not all, can be forgiven. Seems the new furnaces have not come in yet (they thought it would be by the end of last week), and I was promised a phone call when they DO come in, so I’ll know when to move the cat pan outta the utility room. As it is now, I’ve been moving it back and forth between the utility room and bathroom. It can’t STAY in the bathroom, cuz I hardly have any room in there and it blocks the shower. However, I’ve been moving it in there while I’m out of the apartment, in case they come by and need the utility room cleared out.

I was also promised that they would again look into the heating element issue and get back to me this week. If not, I was instructed to follow up on Monday. And they were already on top of the Washroom issue. I guess they were keeping track of it because they thought that a new washing machine would solve the problem of leakage. So they checked on it this morning and found out that the problem was worse… before I even said anything about it. So it seems these folks are right on top of things. Here’s hoping it stays that way. The old apartment manager and maintenance man (a retired middlin to elderly couple) were nice enough, but things really didn’t get done very quickly… if at all.

Migraine Teeter-Totter

So things are looking up at least in that department. I was in a better frame of mind this morning than I was yesterday, but now my head’s not too happy with me. I debated even coming in this morning, but knew that two of the girls would be out in the morning… which would leave the Retiree in here all by herself. Now, she can handle things just fine… but the Boss fussing over ¾ of the office being out is a whole nother matter.

Passing Back the Baton

But it’s a good thing I came in anyway. Mom needed to go over most everything I left notes about what I did last week in her place. And there was one thing I screwed up pretty majorly (one of Friday’s fires, actually… though, I can’t be entirely blamed, as the software was not behaving as it was supposed to and I was being rushed through a process I wasn’t very familiar with in the first place) but it wasn’t anything that wasn’t easily amended once all the elements of the situation were laid out clearly. And there was still time to get it straightened out before the deadline, so all is good. Everything else I just needed to explain how I got from point A to point B on a few things, and clarify my notes.

Home Early?

I was hoping to mebbe head home a li’l early today, though… then remembered that Mom has class on Mondays. So I’ll be here to cover for her until she gets back around 4:00. I may still leave a li’l early after that, though. I’m getting my new computer at work today so, depending on how many glitches they encounter in the process, I may be twiddling my thumbs or scrounging for non-computer related tasks this afternoon. An ideal day to leave the office early if I weren’t covering for Mom. *sigh* Oh well. I’ll pop another half dose of my meds and see how I fare.

If I’m feeling well enough, another reason I’d like to leave early is cuz Michael’s is having a Veteran’s Day Sale going on all week… with another of their 50%-off-an-Entire-Custom-Framing deal that doesn’t come along very frequently. I’ve gotten all of my framing done with those deals, and have a few small pieces I’d like to price. During the workday would be the preferable time to avoid lines… certainly worth a few hours worth of sick and/or vacation time.

Ah well… guess I’ll see how my afternoon goes. Until tomorrow…!
