So I talked to my IHOP Buddy last night. We didn't get off the phone until well after 11:00, though (my phone convos are rarely short... can you imagine that?), and I decided to go straight to bed and update in the morning.
Lookin Up
Amway, things are looking much better than they did two days ago... they have financial options, and the docs decided to keep her hubby's arm in some kind of temporary pressure cast rather than operate on it immediately. From what I understand, the goal is to press everything together in his arm and hope new bone will grow into place. I guess if that doesn't work out as planned, then they'll go ahead and surgically implant a rod in there.
Financial Options
As I guessed, he won't be able to work for a while... but his employer was nice enough to offer my friend a bookkeeping position with them until her hubby's able to work again. Plus, he's filing for some General Relief... which requires a police report. Unfortunately, it seems the guy who was driving the car has skipped out... nobody can find him. Plus, the dood hadn't even wanted to take his injured passenger to the friggin hospital... said, "oh, it doesn't look broken... let's just go home". Right. Evidently he's somehow related by marriage, but I honestly can't consider the guy their friend.
But at least I'm not SO worried about their situation. Like my friend said last night, at least they have options. And options are always a good thing. As predicted, they won't accept any money... but I think they'll be able to squeeze through between his last paycheck, her first paycheck, and whenever the Relief Aide kicks in.
How Can I Help?
However, my friend knows me well enough (ie: that I'll keep fussing about being able to do something to help) and informed me that some of my famous banana bread and blueberry bread would not be found remiss. So I think I'm gonna whip up a couple of batches and take it down to them this weekend. I probly won't stay as I normally do, though, cuz I've traumatized my poor body enough in the past to know that recovering is plenty of stress all by itself... adding anything more to the equation, like dealing with guests (no matter how well meaning), only adds to that stress.
Amway, its about time for Mom and I to go out to lunch. Tuesdays are our official day for that. :) I'll probly be back to write some more this afternoon or evening, depending on how busy it is here.
We're Back! And Happy. Mostly...
